Fading surf ahead of new swell energy from Friday
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 16th October)
Best Days: Beginners Tuesday morning, Saturday morning, Sunday morning, Monday morning, Tuesday morning
Recap
Good waves all weekend with a new SW groundswell for Saturday to 2-3ft with offshore winds and reinforcing S/SW pulse Sunday morning keeping waves up around the same size.
This morning a reinforcing W/SW swell has come in at 2ft with light offshore winds, though fresh sea breezes have since kicked in.
This week and weekend (Oct 17 - 22)
Today's reinforcing W/SW swell should ease off into this afternoon leaving tiny fading 1-1.5ft waves tomorrow morning with a N/NW offshore ahead of afternoon sea breezes.
From here on the surf will be tiny until a very intense mid-latitude moves in from the west over the coming days, generating a strengthening fetch of gale to severe-gale W/SW winds.
This system will pass under us Thursday evening and early Friday, generating a good W/SW groundswell for Friday, building rapidly to 3ft through the afternoon with gusty W/SW winds, easing back to the 2ft+ range Saturday with a morning W/NW breeze.
Weak trailing fronts should keep small levels of W/SW swell persisting through Sunday and Monday to 1-2ft.
A final strengthening polar front south of us on Monday may generate some bigger SW swell into Tuesday which looks to be around 3ft at this stage with a morning offshore, but we'll have a closer look at this Wednesday.
