Good S/SE groundswell for the weekend
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 3rd February)
Best Days: Saturday morning for keen surfers, Sunday
Recap
Tiny waves yesterday morning but a new W/SW swell kicked through the late afternoon to a tiny 1-1.5ft, holding today with offshore winds.
This weekend and next week (Feb 4 - 10)
The weak fronts responsible for today's W/SW swell should keep 1-1.5ft waves hititng the coast early tomorrow, before fading back into the afternoon. Conditions are looking good most of the day with an offshore wind and maybe mid-late afternoon sea breezes.
The S/SE groundswell for later in the day and Sunday is still on track with satellite observations confirming a great fetch of severe-gale to storm-force SE winds on the polar shelf in our swell window.
The swell should be seen later Saturday, peaking Sunday morning to 2ft, with the odd 3ft set possible at magnets, easing slowly through the day and from 1-2ft Monday.
Conditions will be good again Sunday morning ahead of a late onshore change, with W/SW winds Monday morning.
Longer term there's nothing major on the cards for the rest of the week at all, so make the most of the weekend's swells.
