Easing S/SW swell from tomorrow, with a good W/SW groundswell next week
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 12th October)
Best Days: Thursday morning, Friday morning, Saturday swell magnets, Wednesday
Recap
A large strong increase in W/SW swell was seen yesterday to an easy 4ft and with good conditions in protected spots out of the westerly wind.
Today a mix of new W/SW swell and easing surf from yesterday has kept Clifton around 2-3ft with early light winds ahead of an onshore change.
This week and weekend (Oct 13 - 16)
This morning’s onshore change is linked to a relatively weak polar front pushing up past us and with this a fun S/SW swell is due.
The size of this has been downgraded a touch further since Monday, with 2-3ft sets due into later today and early tomorrow morning, easing into the afternoon and further from 1-2ft Friday.
Conditions tomorrow are looking better though with the front being a touch weaker, resulting in an early W/NW-NW breeze, tending onshore through the day. Friday morning will also be clean before sea breezes kick in.
A small SW groundswell is due Saturday, generated by a weak polar front generating unfavourable W/NW winds through our swell window today and early tomorrow. Inconsistent 1-2ft sets are due with offshore N/NW winds.
Sunday is then expected to be tiny.
Next week onwards (Oct 17 onwards)
Tiny 1ft waves are due into Monday and Tuesday next week, but a good W/SW groundswell is due mid-week. This will be generated by a strong polar low firing up east of Heard Island this weekend, projecting a fetch of severe-gale W/SW winds through our far swell window before projecting towards the Bight.
The low will then weaken and move across us Tuesday, with a strong W/SW groundswell to follow Wednesday to 2-3ft. Offshore NW winds are due all day at this stage, but check back here Friday for more on this.
