Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 22nd April)

Best Days: Saturday protected spots, Sunday morning, Tuesday morning

Recap

Tiny waves the last few days, ideal for beginners and more exposed breaks.

This weekend and next week (Apr 23 - 29)

The weekend is the best chance of a wave over the coming period, with a strong cold front currently passing under us, on top of an active sea state, produced by a weaker frontal system before it.

This should result in a good SW groundswell for tomorrow peaking into the afternoon.

I'm a little sceptical on the morning size, but by mid-late morning we should see good 3ft sets, easing back through Sunday from 2ft.

Conditions at dawn tomorrow are looking average with a W/SW breeze, but this should swing W/NW mid-morning and flirt from W/SW-W/NW for the rest of the day.

Sunday looks great with a NW offshore ahead of S/SW sea breezes.

Next week, the only really surfable day is Tuesday, with a short-lived polar low firing up under WA this weekend due to produce a fetch of gale to severe-gale W'ly winds along the polar shelf.

An inconsistent but fun 2ft spike in swell is due with offshore N/NW winds, fading into the afternoon and then tiny for the rest of the week.

Longer term into the start of May the storm track looks to become more favourable for us, but we'll have another look at this Monday. Have a great weekend!
