Tons of swell and surf at various locations
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 8th April)
Best Days: Saturday, Sunday morning, Monday protected spots, early Tuesday, Thursday
Recap
After Wednesday's kick in swell, Thursday offered smaller clean fun 2ft waves across Clifton, fading into the afternoon and back to a tiny 1ft this morning.
This weekend and week (Apr 9 - 15)
Tomorrow's mix of SW groundswells are still looking good, with the most size from the strongest pulse due through the middle of the day. Clifton should reach a good 3ft, if not 2-3ft early, and winds will be great with a fresh offshore N/NW tending NW breeze.
Sunday morning will be a temporary low point, but we're still likely to see 2-3ft sets as some new reinforcing W/SW swell fills in ahead of some larger W/SW groundswell later in the day.
This will be generated by an initial front producing a pre and post-frontal fetch of W/SW winds through our western swell window, with a kick to 3ft due through the afternoon.
This will be in conjunction with a larger W/SW tending SW groundswell event, produced as the strongest of all the fronts projected a fetch of severe-gale W/SW tending SW winds up into us Sunday.
A large SW groundswell will result, kicking later Sunday to 3-4ft, peaking Monday morning to 5-6ft across Clifton.
Strong onshore W/SW winds are due with this front Sunday afternoon, holding from the SW-W/SW Monday, favouring protected breaks.
A drop in size is due through the afternoon, with easing 3-4ft sets Tuesday morning under more favourable W/NW winds around Clifton (tending W/SW mid-morning).
One more final SW groundswell is due next week, produced by a vigorous polar low being directed south-east from the Indian Ocean, into the polar shelf. A fetch of severe-gale to storm-force NW tending W/NW winds will be aimed through our swell window, with the low then reforming under us late in our swell window Tuesday.
Two separate SW and S/SW swells will be created, arriving at the same time, building later Wednesday to a good 3ft across Clifton and easing from a similar size Thursday morning. Conditions will be best Thursday with a N/NW tending variable wind, but we'll have another look at this Monday. Have a great weekend!
