Good swell tomorrow, spoilt by onshores

Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 14th March)

Best Days: Wednesday morning, Thursday exposed breaks

Recap

No real surf Saturday or Sunday morning, while an inconsistent W/SW groundswell pulsed a little into the afternoon, but with poor conditions.

Today onshore winds kept conditions well below average along with a tiny 1-1.5ft of swell, but a swing around to the NE has since been seen, opening up a few options for a late surf.

This week (Mar 15 - 18)

As talked about last week, a good new pulse of SW groundswell is due this afternoon ahead of a better pulse tomorrow. This should provide good 2ft to occasionally 3ft sets across Clifton, but winds are an issue.

Fresh onshore SE breezes are due from the get go, tending more E/SE through the day.

Wednesday should be cleaner with a N/NE tending NE offshore but easing small 2ft wave.

Stiffer N'ly winds Thursday and a tiny fading swell will favour exposed breaks away from Clifton.

Friday isn't looking too flash with a tiny weak mix of swells and an offshore breeze ahead of a strong evening change.

This weekend onwards (Mar 19 onwards)

Friday evening's onshore change is linked to a couple of back to back frontal systems moving in from the west, bringing some fun but small W/SW swell for Saturday to 2ft or so.

One of these systems is now forecast to strengthen right on our door step, possibly developing into a vigorous East Coast Low, generating a stormy and solid S/SE swell across our coasts through Saturday. The European solution isn't liking this setup as much, but have a check back here on Wednesday for an update on how it's shaping up.
