Tiny end to the week, better swells from next Monday
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 2nd March)
Best Days: Friday morning beginners, Monday morning, Tuesday morning
Recap
Small easing 1-2ft of S'ly swell yesterday with offshore winds, while today was tiny and best for beginners.
This week and weekend (Mar 3 - 5)
Our tiny pulse of W/SW groundswell for later tomorrow and Friday morning is still on track, generated by a couple of mid-latitude fronts pushing in from the west the last couple of days.
Unfortunately afternoon sea breezes will spoil the kick to 1-1.5ft tomorrow, with Friday the better bet for beginners with a morning NW offshore ahead of afternoon sea breezes.
Saturday will be tiny and clean most of the day, but into later Sunday and more so Monday and Tuesday a couple of better SW groundswell pulses are due.
These will be generated by a flurry of vigorous polar frontal activity from our far swell window, south-east of Heard Island under the country from tomorrow through the weekend.
The first frontal system will start under Heard Island but then race ahead of the swell its producing, and then produce a new SW swell for later Sunday, kicking to a small 1-2ft across Clifton and easing from a similar size Monday morning.
A secondary more persistent progression should then produce another pulse of SW groundswell for Tuesday, building through the day and reaching 2-3ft, before easing from 2ft+ Wednesday morning.
Winds are looking favourable and offshore from the N/NW each morning Monday and Tuesday ahead of a stuff onshore change Wednesday. More on this Friday though.
