Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 24th February)

Best Days: Friday, Saturday morning, Sunday morning, Monday morning, Tuessday morning

Recap

Fun pulse of SW swell to 1-2ft with offshores, holding a similar size this morning.

This week and weekend (Feb 25 - 28)

Tiny surf is due through tomorrow with all day offshores, ideal for beginners, but into Friday a mix of W/SW groundswells are due.

A strong polar front is firing up through our western swell window, with this due to arrive through Friday and peak into the afternoon to 2ft+ across Clifton.

Before this swell arrives though, a secondary intensification of the frontal progression just west of is expected tomorrow, with a fetch of W/SW gales dropping under us through our swell window into the evening and early morning.

This is a little less favourable than forecast on Monday but a good pulse of short-range W/SW swell to 2ft+ is due with 3ft bombs likely.

Behind this though a better aligned fetch of strong to gale-force W/SW winds should generate another better SW groundswell for Saturday to 3ft.

Conditions are looking great with all day offshore W/NW winds Friday and W/NW to W/SW winds Saturday.

Sunday morning should see the swell ease away from 2ft under morning NW winds.

Next week onwards (Feb 29 onwards)

A good new SW groundswell pulse for Monday is due from an intense polar low firing up on the weekend with a fetch of severe-gale W/SW winds being aimed through our south-western swell window.

The swell should build Monday morning and peak to a good 3ft across Clifton. Morning offshores will give into sea breezes, so aim for a mid-late morning paddle.

Longer term there's nothing major on the cards but check back here on Friday for the latest.
