Inconsistent but fun W/SW groundswell Friday, another pulse early Sunday
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 23rd December)
Best Days: Friday, Sunday morning, early Monday, Wednesday
Recap
A kick in swell Monday held in at a fun 2ft yesterday morning across Clifton with favourable morning winds, while today we've continued to see fun 2ft sets when the swell was due to really fade away. A much welcomed surprise.
This week and weekend (Dec 24 - 27)
Tomorrow morning is expected to start tiny with offshore winds, with a small kick in SW swell due to 1-2ft ahead of a better W/SW groundswell later in the day, peaking Friday morning.
This swell, generated in our far swell window with offer very infrequent but strong 2ft sets Friday, easing back to 1ft to occasionally 2ft Saturday.
Conditions tomorrow afternoon will be average with sea breezes, while Friday should see offshore N/NW winds all day.
Saturday looks poor as an onshore change moves in just before dawn from the SW.
This change will be linked to a strengthening polar low to our south-west on Friday, aiming a tight fetch of gale to severe-gale SW winds through our swell window.
A good pulse of SW groundswell should be generated, possibly showing late Saturday and peaking Sunday morning to 2-3ft across Clifton with morning offshore winds. A steady drop is then due through the day and further into Monday.
Longer term, some unfavourably aligned but persist and good polar frontal activity should produce fun levels of W/SW swell for the middle to end of next week. More on this Friday though.
