Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 26th June)

Best Days: Every day from Saturday afternoon

Recap

Easing small 1-1.5ft waves yesterday with tiny surf into this morning.

This weekend and next week (Jun 27 – Jul 3)

There's been no real change to the start of the weekend and Sunday morning, with the first of a very inconsistent long-range W/SW groundswell due to fill in tomorrow and peak tomorrow afternoon.

Clifton is due to build to a very infrequent 2ft to possibly 3ft, with nothing in between sets (smaller early).

Sunday morning is due to be similar in size to Saturday afternoon, but into the afternoon a jump in better long-range W/SW groundswell is due mixed in with some larger medium-range W/SW swell.

This medium-range swell has already begun its production with satellite observations picking up a fetch of 50-60kt W'ly winds aimed through our far swell window to the south-southwest of WA.

This low is forecast to raced quickly towards us over the weekend while continuing to generate a fetch of severe-gale to storm-force W/SW winds through our swell window, producing a strong pulse of W/SW groundswell for Sunday afternoon.

Clifton is due to build to 4-5ft+ through the afternoon under fresh and gusty W/NW winds.

A drop in size is due through Monday from 3-4ft or so under W/NW winds, while into Tuesday a reinforcing W/SW groundswell has now been upgraded.

The pre-frontal fetch of W/NW gales generating this is now due to spruik a trailing fetch of storm-force W/SW winds, generating a strong W/SW groundswell pulse for Tuesday afternoon.
Clifton is expected to build back to 3-5ft late in the day, easing then from 3-4ft Wednesday morning.

Winds should remain favourable and from the NW to W/NW Tuesday with N/NW winds Wednesday.

Later in the week we're due to see another healthy pulse of W/SW groundswell but not to the size of Tuesday/Wednesday's, but we'll discuss this in more detail on Monday. Have a great weekend!
