Poor outlook ahead
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 21st November)
Best Days: No good days
Recap
Wednesday morning's fun W/SW swell backed off through the afternoon and dropped back to a tiny 1-1.5ft through Thursday but under favourable N'ly winds favouring more exposed breaks. Today a small new swell lifted the surf back to 1-2ft but conditions were average with onshore winds from the S/SE in the wake of a weak trough last night.
This weekend (Nov 22 - 23)
Today's slight lift in W/SW swell is expected to ease back through tomorrow with tiny 1-1.5ft sets due through the day under N/NW winds ahead of S/SE sea breezes. Therefore get in through the morning for the best of it.
Sunday will start out near flat under W/NW winds, and a new long-range and inconsistent W/SW groundswell due through the afternoon isn't expected to offer any real size with it being generated too far north of our prime swell window between Heard Island and West Oz.
Still an infrequent 1ft+ wave is due which should hold into Monday morning before fading through the day.
Next Monday onwards (Nov 24 onwards)
The next increase in swell is due through Tuesday afternoon but this will be a short-range and small number, generated by a weak polar front pushing across us through the day.
A late increase to 1-2ft is due but winds will be onshore from the W/SW and then SW in the wake of the front Wednesday.
Into the end of the week and weekend some better SW groundswell is due across the coast from strong polar frontal activity skirting around the southern flank of a strong blocking high over the mainland. Unfortunately with this swell we'll see the poor winds associated with the high, from the SW Friday, SE Saturday and then NE Sunday on the backside of the swell.
We'll review this again Monday though, but in the meantime have a great weekend!
