Easing surf over weekend, good Tuesday
Southern Tasmania Forecast (issued Wednesday 30th Jul)
Best Days: Saturday morning, Sunday, Monday afternoon, Tuesday, Wednsday
Recap
Wednesday's strong W/SW groundswell eased back to 2-3ft yesterday but a long-range and inconsistent W/SW groundswell should of showed later in the day. This swell held well into this morning to 3-4ft across Clifton, and an even larger increase in size should have been seen later today but with poor onshore winds.
This weekend onwards (Aug 2 onwards)
A strong increase in W/SW groundswell expected later today should peak overnight but hold well into tomorrow morning, generated by a vigorous polar front projecting up towards SA the last couple of days.
We should still see 3-4ft sets across the coast tomorrow morning with early W/NW winds ahead of a SW change through the afternoon as the swell drops away.
Sunday should see easing 2ft leftovers but a S/SE groundswell on the charts was generated over the polar ice shelf and has been incorrectly forecast. Winds should be offshore all day from the N/NW.
Monday will start out slow but we may see a late increase in W/SW groundswell ahead of a much stronger pulse Tuesday. This is expected to be generated by a couple of intense polar fronts moving in from the west, generating back to back fetches of severe-gale to storm-force W/SW winds.
An initial spike in W/SW groundswell to 2-3ft is expected later Monday ahead of a peak Tuesday to 3-4ft.
The swell will ease rapidly overnight though leaving smaller 2-3ft waves into Wednesday. Winds should be good and offshore all day from the W/NW Monday and then stronger from a similar direction Tuesday and Wednesday.
Into the end of the week a strong change pushing up from the south-west should bring with it another solid increase in swell but with onshore winds Thursday and offshores as the swell eases Friday. We'll look at this again Monday though. Have a great weekend!
