Southern Tasmania Forecast (issued Friday 9th May)

Best Days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday morning

Recap

Wednesday's late kick in rare S/SE groundswell which saw protected spots fire again, backed off into yesterday from a much cleaner 3ft or so across Clifton with larger waves at more exposed spots.

Today, smaller levels of SE swell were left to 2ft, but this should of faded further during the day.

This weekend and next week onwards (May 10 onwards)

There isn't expected to be any major swell over the weekend so give it a miss unless you're a beginner, then you should find the odd tiny peeler at exposed spots.

Into next week a long-range but fun W/SW groundswell is due to fill in, generated in our far swell window in the Heard Island region. Only a small and very inconsistent 2ft wave is expected Monday afternoon before easing slowly Tuesday.

Winds will be favourable with a N/NW tending variable breeze Monday and persistent N/NW winds Tuesday.

Longer term we may see another very acute W'ly swell keep small 1-2ft waves hitting Clifton Wednesday but of greater importance is a possible strong W/SW groundswell later in the week/next weekend. This may be generated by a deepening polar front moving in from the south-west during the week, but we'll review this again on Monday. Have a great weekend!
