South Australian Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 13th April)

Best Days: South Coast tomorrow and Friday morning, South Coast Monday and Tuesday

Recap

Plenty of swell down South yesterday but with a fresh onshore breeze, while the Mid Coast was cleaner but only around 1ft on the sets.

Today cleaner conditions were seen down South with a light morning E/NE breeze and plenty of decent size. The Mid Coast continued in the tiny 0.5-1ft range.

This week and weekend (Apr 14- 17)

South Coast: Tomorrow's looking great with a good but inconsistent S/SW groundswell under favourable offshore winds.

This swell is due to peak through the morning to an inconsistent 3ft to possibly 4ft across the Middleton stretch, with 4-5ft sets at Waits and Parsons.

Offshore N/NE winds will create clean conditions through the morning, with weak afternoon SE sea breezes.

Friday morning will be clean again through the morning with an easing swell under NW offshores ahead of a shallow afternoon SW change.

Saturday will be poor with the swell bottoming out under fresh to strong S/SE winds but our fresh pulse of S/SW groundswell for Sunday has been upgraded a touch.

This is due to the relatively weak but sustained polar frontal system generating the swell now expected to intensify to our south-southwest, aiming an additional fetch of severe-gale SW winds through our swell window.

A larger S/SW groundswell is now due, filling in through Sunday and peaking into the afternoon to a strong 4-5ft across Middleton, with 6ft+ sets at Waits and Parsons but with average fresh and gusty E/SE tending S/SE winds.

Mid Coast: Tomorrow's inconsistent S/SW swell will fail to really budge above 0.5ft, while into Saturday a small mid-latitude low should produce a small kick to 1ft through the day. This will then hold around 1ft Sunday with the arrival of the new swell due down South.

Next week onwards (Apr 18 onwards)

Sunday's strong kick in swell will drop off steadily into early next week and conditions will improve with a NE offshore Monday and fresher N'ly winds Tuesday. Beyond this some new swell is due into the end of the week and following weekend, but more on this Friday.
