Average week, more potential early next week
South Australian Forecast (issued Monday 14th December)
Best Days: Swell magnets South Coast for keen surfers tomorrow morning and Thursday morning, longboard waves Mid Coast Friday and Saturday
Recap
Fun clean 1-2ft waves on the Mid Saturday with the peak in SW swell, while the South Coast also offered decent conditions with a variable breeze and solid 3-4ft sets across the Middleton stretch.
Sunday saw the Mid ease back to a tiny 1-1.5ft, while the South Coast continued to provide plenty of size, easing from 3ft at Middleton with bigger sets at Waits and Parsons.
Today the swell was tiny on the Mid and small down South, best at swell magnets with early light winds.
This week (Dec 15 - 18)
South Coast: This week is looking very sub-par with no decent swell due until Friday and with generally poor winds.
Tomorrow morning should see a light variable SE'ly but smaller surf than today with swell magnets the only go for maybe 2ft sets.
A fresh S/SE'ly developing through the day should kick up a weak S/SE windswell into Wednesday to 2ft or so but with fresh and poor SE winds.
Light variable tending NE winds are likely Thursday morning with a mix of easing S/SE windswell and background SW groundswell. 1-2ft waves are likely across Middleton with inconsistent 2ft+ sets at Waits and Parsons, best before afternoon sea breezes kick in.
A slightly better W/SW groundswell is due Friday from a broad but relatively weak polar low that's currently south-west of WA.
Only a very inconsistent 2ft+ wave is expected at Middleton with 3-4ft sets at Waits and Parsons, but a weak onshore change is likely to linger into Friday morning with moderate to fresh S'ly breezes.
Mid Coast: Near flat conditions are due tomorrow and Wednesday with maybe the odd 0.5ft set, but a slight kick in background energy to 0.5-1ft is likely Thursday.
The stronger groundswell for Friday is more promising with 1-1.5ft sets due on the favourable parts of the tide, holding into Saturday morning. Those S'ly winds down South should tend S/SE across the Mid Coast Friday morning, with E/NE offshores Saturday morning.
This weekend onwards (Dec 19 onwards)
Easing surf with light variable winds is on the cards for the South Coast Saturday, with some better action due into later Sunday and more so Monday next week as a deep and powerful mid-latitude low forms in the Bight and pushes east towards Victoria. A moderate to large sized swell is likely, but we'll have a closer look at this on Wednesday.
