Slow period ahead
Nias, Mentawai, South Sumatra forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Thursday 16th Jul)
Best Days: Exposeds spots over the coming period, up until mid-next week when SE winds strengthen
This week and next week (Jul 17 – Jul 24)
We're currently in a slow period with only background levels of S/SW groundswell keeping exposed breaks topped up with an decent size.
This will continue through tomorrow and Saturday before the swell really starts to wane into Sunday and Monday.
Exposed spots should offer infrequent 4-5ft+ sets tomorrow and Saturday, easing Sunday and Monday, with a slight kick to 3-5ft Tuesday.
Winds should remain light to moderate from the S/SE in general, before strengthening from the S/SE from the middle of next week around the Ments, limiting options to protected breaks. South Sumatra should see a touch more size with moderate to fresh E/SE trades, strengthening into the middle of next week.
Later in the week a slightly better S'ly swell is due from a broad but not overly strong polar front pushing up towards and then into WA, but not to any major size.
The Ments should build later Thursday to the 4-5ft range, with 4-6ft sets possible Friday.
There's the chance for a secondary slightly stronger S/SW groundswell for the weekend, and better pulses the following week, but we'll review this Tuesday.

Hi Craig - will you be doing another report for the Ments today? Noticed it's normally updated on Thursday's but above you say you will review today.
I'm leaving for Telo's tomorrow so hoping you will update today. From what I can tell we will get a few pulses from this Fri thru to mid next week then something a little bigger around the 30th?
Cheers
Hi Maddog, I do them Tuesday and Thursday, so will have both up today.
Awesome thanks!
