Recap
Sat saw some workable NE swell to 2-3ft with mostly clean conditions. That swell eased right back to 1ft or so on Sun. Today is seeing small S swell wrap to 2ft at S facing beaches with W/NW winds.
This week and next week (Sep18 - Sep29)
We’ve got another slow moving pattern on our hands to start the week with a high pressure belt at sub-tropical latitudes directing a W’ly to NW’ly flow across the state and a very zonal (W-E) storm track tracking through the far southern Tasman Sea.
In the short run we’ll see winds tend more NW-N/NW and surf build from the NE as small NE windswell rebuilds into the 2-3ft range tomorrow, generated by a fetch off the NSW Coast.
Size builds further into Wed, into the 3ft+ range, with W’ly winds freshening as a zonal front passes over the state.
There’ll be some fun leftovers on Thurs in the 2ft range easing during the day. As the front passes through we’ll see winds shift SW-S in the a’noon with a small bump in new S swell to 2ft at S facing beaches.
Further fronts and a compact low passing into the Tasman bring more small S swell pulses, with winds tending variable then NW on Fri and S swell building into the 3ft range at S facing beaches.
This swell should hold into Sat morning with an easing trend through the day and light NW winds.
Surf looks quiet and small from Sun into the start of next week, although we may see a trough low low pressure off Tasmania’s East Coast Tues develop small E’ly swell.
Absent that we’re looking a tiny surf into the middle of next week.
We’ll see how it looks on Wed.
