This weekend and next week (Jun 19 - 25)

The large E'ly swell that's developing on the coast today is from a fetch of strong to near gale-force E'ly winds wrapping around the southern flank of a Tasman Low, sitting north-east of us.

During today and this evening we'll see an additional fetch of strengthen E/SE winds projected slightly west towards us, generating an additional pulse of large E'ly groundswell tomorrow across the state.

Size wise, we should see 6ft waves across most open beaches, with 8ft cleanups likely above the northern end of the coast, easing slowly into the afternoon.

With SE winds holding through our swell window tomorrow afternoon and evening, the easing trend will be slowed with Sunday still coming in at 4ft+, easing more steadily into the afternoon and back to the 2ft range on Monday.

Winds for tomorrow still look to be a bit of an issue, strong from the S-S/SW, favouring southern corners and easing slightly into the afternoon.

Sunday looks great with a light SW offshore, tending weak E'ly and then NE into the afternoon. Monday will be clean most of the morning with a W/NW offshore, light NE into the afternoon if not variable.

Now, as touched on in the last couple of updates, we're due to see another low forming later next week but to our east and quickly dropping south. Under this scenario we'll see a small pulse of E/NE swell from E/NE winds feeding into the eastern flank of the low, building later Thursday but more so Friday and then persisting at a smaller size through next weekend. There's also due to be some small S'ly groundswell in the mix from a polar low, but we'll have a closer look at this Monday.

Winds are still funky but look favourable, though more on this in the coming updates. Have a great weekend!
