Recap
Large surf out of the NE on Saturday with improving winds and options as the day progressed, great and fun yesterday with clean 3-4ft sets.
Today the surf is smaller again with a mix of new S'ly swell and easing NE energy around 2-3ft.
This week and weekend (Feb 9 - 14)
The coming couple of days aren't too flash with another front pushing up past us this evening due to bring a pulse of weak S/SE windswell along with fresh S/SW tending SE winds.
Wednesday will be cleaner with a light, offshore wind but the swell will be a leftover 1-2ft and best for beginners.
Into the end of the week we'll see a new E/SE groundswell fill in, mixed in with some new N/NE windswell. The groundswell will be generated by a strong low forming off the tip of New Zealand's South Island. The low looks a touch weaker than last week's forecasts but we'll still see a significant fetch of SE gales generated through our swell window Wednesday.
This will see the swell arriving overnight Thursday, peaking Friday morning with fun sets to 3-4ft across open beaches, easing into the afternoon and smaller Saturday from 2ft+.
We'll also see a decent N/NE swell in the mix as a cold front pushing in from the west squeezes a high in the Tasman Sea, kicking up strong, broad N/NE winds Thursday afternoon and early Friday ahead of an offshore change.
The swell should kick to 3ft by dark Thursday, peaking Friday morning to 3-4ft, easing rapidly with the change. Winds on Thursday will strengthen from the N/NE, with great conditions Friday under the NW change.
Offshore W/SW winds should persist Saturday with the easing E/SE groundswell ahead of sea breezes.
Longer term there's nothing too major on the cards until late next week, so make the most of the coming swells.
