This weekend and next week (Dec 2 - 8)

Currently a deepening surface trough is edging in from the west, and we're now expected to see this system deepen significantly right on our doorstep.

During the early hours of tomorrow morning we'll see a fetch of S/SE winds projected up the coast, strengthening further during the day while widening in scope.

This will produce a building S/SE windswell through the day that should reach 4-6ft across south facing beaches, though with poor and strong S/SW tending S/SE winds.

Into tomorrow evening the low will deepen further and we'll see gale-force S/SE winds developing right off our coast, reaching a peak in intensity through the afternoon.

A large stormy S/SE swell will result, building to an easy 8ft+ through the day, if not larger.

With the centre of the low being so close, we'll see favourable but strong to gale-force S/SW winds across the region, favouring protected southern corners.

The low is expected to weaken and move slowly south-east through Sunday and evening and Monday, resulting in a slow drop in S/SE tending SE swell through early next week.

Monday should still be large with easing 6ft to maybe 8ft sets, much smaller into the afternoon and back from the 3-4ft range Tuesday.

Winds are looking good for Monday morning and offshore from the SW, tending S/SE through the day, with dicey SE winds lingering Tuesday, though there's a possibility of an early S/SW'ly.

Longer term we're likely to see a secondary deepening trough and low slipping down from the north, generating a building E/NE swell through the middle of the week ahead of another S'ly change. More on this Monday though. Have a great weekend!
