Average period ahead
Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 23rd August)
Best Days: No great days, later Saturday keen surfers south magnets, Sunday morning south magnets
Recap
Clean easing SE swell yesterday from an inconsistent 1-2ft, flat into today.
This week and weekend (Aug 24 - 27)
The forecast for the end of the week is poor, with a S'ly change overnight and early tomorrow being so brief that there'll be hardly any size expected off it at all. Maybe 1-1.5ft max, fading through the day.
The surf will remain tiny until some small refracted S'ly groundswell makes it way up towards us Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.
A broad and elongated fetch of W/SW gales moving along the polar shelf over the coming days will generate a significant groundswell event for the state, but how hard it has to refract into our south facing beaches is a worry.
If we're lucky we should still see inconsistent sets to 2-3ft developing across magnets by dark Saturday, easing from a similar size Sunday morning.
Trailing frontal activity may generate additional S'ly swells for Monday, but we'll review this on Friday.
Winds on Saturday will be offshore through the morning, with E/SE sea breezes, and W'ly tending variable winds on Sunday.
