Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 19th December)

Best Days: Tuesday, small waves at the end of the week for keen surfers, Saturday and Sunday mornings, early next week

Recap

A flukey north-east swell came in at a fun 1-2ft on Saturday fading back into Sunday with a tiny south swell.

Later in the day though and more so today, a new flukey S'ly groundswell has come in nicely with 3ft sets across south magnets with favourable winds.

This week (Dec 20 - 23)

Tomorrow morning there should still be a hint of S'ly swell to 1-2ft across south facing beaches but a bigger N/NE windswell is on the cards, produced by a healthy fetch of strong N/NE winds down our coast this evening and early tomorrow.

North-east facing beaches should reach 3-4ft during the morning, easing once a W'ly change moves through early-mid morning. We may see afternoon sea breezes, so surf during the morning for the most size and cleanest conditions.

Come Wednesday there isn't expected to be much size leftover with 1-1.5ft sets max on the coast.

For the rest of the week some very inconsistent and small trade-swell is due from a fetch of stationary E'ly winds south of Fiji and east of New Caledonia.

This trade-flow will hold in our far swell window until about Thursday before breaking down.

With this very inconsistent levels of E/NE swell are due from Thursday through Sunday or so to 1-2ft at open beaches and magnets.

Some small local N/NE windswell should also be in the Mix Saturday and Sunday to 1-2ft, likely strengthening into early next week as a more consolidated fetch develops down the coast.

Winds through this period are due to be offshore through the mornings and then NE into the afternoons, but more on this Wednesday.
