Sunday looking good with a pulse of good S'ly swell
Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Guy Dixon (issued Wednesday 20th July)
Best Days: Sunday and Monday
Recap:
Despite clean conditions and offshore winds, the lack of surf rendered Tuesday a lay day with less than a foot on offer. Today, hints of swell showing at open beaches, but not much more than 1ft under a northwesterly breeze.
This week (Thursday 21st - Friday 22nd):
We are still on track to see the initial energy fill in late this afternoon and into Thursday off a broad frontal progression moving zonally across the southern swell window.
The alignment of these fetches look pretty ordinary, so I would expect exposed south facing beaches to pick up around 2ft of sideband energy, easing throughout Friday.
Conditions are likely to remain clean on Thursday under a persistent northwesterly breeze, tending west/northwesterly on Friday.
This weekend (Saturday 23rd - Sunday 24th):
The next front looks to push over Tasmania on Friday, with northwesterly winds swinging southwesterly, but lacking consolidation and moving locally. No decent swell is expected initially, however a more distant and more intense fetch at the base of this system looks to become slow moving over southern parts of the Tasman Sea.
Southerly swell off early stages of this system is due to build into Sunday afternoon with sets in the 3-5ft range at south facing beaches.
Light northwesterly breezes should keep conditions clean for the peak of the swell.
Next week (Monday 25th onward):
Broader, but weaker fetches off the back of this system will remain active over the southern Tasman in the days following, slowing the easing trend.
Monday should see options hold more or less in the 3-4ft range, easing on Tuesday.
Conditions should remain clean for the most part as offshore breezes persist.
