Run of tiny surf. A possible wave on Monday
Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Guy Dixon (issued Wednesday 29th June)
Best Days: No great days.
Recap:
It’s been a pretty quiet couple of days with sets struggling to reach the 2ft mark on Tuesday, becoming tiny and virtually unsurfable today. Conditions have remained clean for the most part under a northwesterly airflow.
This week (Thursday 30th - Friday 1st) and weekend (Saturday 2nd - Sunday 3rd):
Each swell window is looking fairly dormant at the moment, with no significant systems firing up for at least the next few days.
Although frontal activity is fairly frequent at the moment, each storm track is particularly zonal, moving over Tasmania in a west to eastward motion putting a limit on swell generation.
As a result, any fresh size is not looking likely for the rest of the week or over the weekend, with only 1ft of background energy expected, if that.
Despite the lack of surf, conditions should remain clean under a persistent northwesterly airflow.
Next week (Monday 4th onward):
In the last forecast update, we earmarked Monday as a potential surf day as southwesterly fetches were expected move into the southern swell window in the days prior. Unfortunately, this scenario has now changed for the worse, with these fetches becoming much weaker.
At a similar time however, small amounts of distant energy may fill in across the most exposed swell magnets, providing the odd set in the 1ft to maybe 2ft range. It’s nothing amazing, but the best of a tiny bunch.
Breezes should swing southerly on Monday, fortunately remaining light, minimising the impact on wave quality.
More detail on Friday.
