Central QLD Forecaster Notes by Steve Shearer (updated on Wed 28th Feb)

This week and next week (Feb28 -Mar8)

Central QLD:Tiny surf for a while, small trade swell next week

No surfable options across the region.

Weak high pressure (1022hPa) in Tasman is directing a modest onshore flow across the Eastern Seaboard. SE-E in the sub-tropics and NE across temperate NSW. Not strong enough or deep enough to generate any meaningful swell with CQ remaining tiny. Just a tiny wave on low tides.

This tiny surf extends into the weekend, going close to dead flat over the weekend and into early next week.

We’ll see a new high move into the Tasman next week with healthier looking tradewind flow in the Coral Sea. That should see rideable surf redevelop by Wed, extending into next weekend under current modelling.

The tropics is still bubbling away with a large area of low pressure along the monsoon trough between PNG and the Solomon’s worthy of monitoring for any signs of development through the medium term.

In short, nothing too exciting on the radar but we’ll keep watching as we’re still in the prime time of cyclone season.
