Remaining tiny, some hope on the horizon
Central QLD Forecaster Notes by Steve Shearer (updated on Wed 29th Nov)
This week and next week (Nov29-Dec 8)
Central QLD: Remaining tiny, some hope on the horizon
Tiny and onshore.
A dynamic weather event is underway well to the south as a complex inland low approaches the Far South Coast of NSW, expected to enter the Tasman Sea tomorrow. A moist NE-E/NE infeed into the low is generating plenty of rain (heaviest falls on the South Coast) and building swells from the same direction, focussed on NETas.
Meanwhile the Coral Sea remains filled with weak winds, mostly a weak NE flow extending down the CQ coast towards NSW.
As a result we’ll see tiny surf continue over the rest of the week and into the weekend.
Small/tiny surf extends into next week but there is some hope on the horizon.
A new high pressure system moves E of Tasmania next week and there is some suggestion we’ll see a SE surge up the coast Tues, with a developing trade-wind flow through the rest of next week. Models are still divergent about the strength of the tradewinds so we’ll keep our jets cooled at far as size goes for now. Pencilling in 2ft surf by the end of next week is certainly a possibility.
A potential cyclone forming near the Solomons is also a potentiual swell source, althiough with very low confidence this far out.
Lets see how it looks on Fri.
