Downgraded size but still fun surf ahead
Central QLD Forecaster Notes by Steve Shearer (updated on Mon 24th July)
This weekend and next week (July24-Aug 4 )
Central QLD: Downgraded size but still fun surf ahead.
Surf was tiny over the weekend and is currently on the build.
We’ve got a monster high pressure (1037 hPa) sitting on the edge of the Bight and moving slowly eastwards, maintaining a firm ridge up most of the Eastern Seaboard. A pair of coastal troughs which were expected to form a large area of low pressure off the Capricorn Coast are weakening and moving northwards through the near term. Building short range SE swells are seeing rideable surf develop today.
Compared to Fridays notes this short range SE swell will be smaller due to the fetch being weaker and located further north but we’ll still see 3ft surf through tomorrow, holding Wed and easing slowly from Thurs into the 2-3ft range. Great fun surf for the end of July.
Expect surf to remain rideable through Fri on an easing trend and be back to tiny over the weekend.
Tiny surf then extends through next week.
Check back Wed and we’ll see how it’s shaping up.
