Grab the last of the fun surf this weekend- tiny days ahead
Central QLD Forecaster Notes by Steve Shearer (issued on Fri 24th March)
This weekend and next week (Mar24-Mar31)
Central QLD: Grab the last of the fun surf this weekend- tiny days ahead
Smaller but still fun surf has been offering rideable waves since Wed and we’ll see that continue over the weekend.
No great change to the f/cast. High pressure is now weakening with the angled monsoon trough stretched along the edge of the Coral Sea still supplying sufficient pressure gradients to maintain a tradewind flow which is generating small, fun surf.
This tradewind band maintains surf in the 1-2ft range over the weekend with size slowly contracting through Mon and Tues.
Early next week the tradewind band contracts Eastwards and weakens in the Coral Sea as a troughy patten takes over and winter style low pressure systems traverse the lower Tasman. That pattern will be unfavourable for CQ and by Tues PM and through the rest of next week we’ll see tiny surf develop, less than 1ft and likely 0.5ft.
So get in now and mop up the rest of these fun waves before they disappear.
Check back Mon for the latest and have a great weekend.
