Plenty more surf to come as La Niña pattern holds firm
Central QLD Forecaster Notes by Steve Shearer (issued on Mon 2nd May)
This week and next week (May2-13)
Central QLD: Plenty more surf to come as La Niña pattern holds firm.
Lots of fun waves over the weekend and through today with more to come.
High pressure is sitting over the interior of Central NSW, leading to SE wind conditions, with a trade flow in the South Pacific supplying a steady drumbeat of fun, mid-sized E’ly swell.
Fun sized E/SE swell should hold in the 2ft range through Tues and slowly ease through Wed and Thurs with mod//fresh SE to ESE winds gradually winding down as the tradewind flow winds back in the Coral Sea in advance of a trough.
Friday should see a variable wind flow and small surf.
Into the weekend and a cold front brings a SW flow through Sat with only small surf. Sunday sees winds tend SE’ly again with surf in a rebuilding phase by the end of the day.
Into next week and a monster high sets up a new ridge, possibly enhanced by a coastal trough off the Fraser Coast early next week (see below). That could see a stronger E/SE swell build into Mon/Tues before easing again as the trough moves south next week. Another low may form next week but it looks weak at this stage, although we should still see surfable levels of E swell through most of next week, smaller from Wed onwards.
Check back Wed for a fresh update.

Can we get an update for next week? The reports for this region are very inconsistent. Can we get 2 a week? Monday and Friday? Would especially appreciate reports when useable swell for our region is on the cards, hence why I was especially disappointed to not receive one on Friday as it looks as though there will be good waves for our region next week? We do have large surf communities in the region…who would be more likely to subscribe if a reliable forecast was published.
Cheers
Copy that Zwolffy.
Plenty of surf next week, check Mon for a full update
