Surgical Strike Pt. 1
The charts were lining up over a week out. Friday looked the biggest, while Saturday would see better winds as the swell eased.
Forecasts filed, car packed, and it was time to do a quick dash out of Adelaide. I had my eye on a secluded reef break for the evening and stayed there till the sun drifted over the granite headland. Great start to the trip!
Saturday dawned smaller but perfectly clean at a notorious beachie that was doing its best impersonation of Puerto Escondido. The walk was long and hot to where a couple of the local guys and a handful of Seaford crew were surfing. They were stepping off into 6ft bombs that were throwing as wide as they were tall onto a dangerously shallow sandbank.
Not many were made, but the guys would have visions of perfect cylinders etched into the back of their minds. Enough to keep them going in-between swells, and also something to brag about to their mates back in Adelaide.//CRAIG BROKENSHA
