Pohnpei Surf Club - November Report
"This is so much more than just a surf trip," mused Joe, a powerful natural footer from Maryland on the East Coast of the USA. We were sitting on the beach drinking chilled coconuts at Ant Atoll, a small atoll seven miles off the west coast of Pohnpei. We had enjoyed a fun run of waves all week but this morning the swell had dropped off so Allois made the call for a day trip. In record time the boat had been loaded with fishing and snorkeling gear, a cool box full of coconuts and snacks and plenty of fuel. We'd motored out through Palikir Pass just to make sure it hadn't suddenly started to pulse, but it was tiny so PSC boatman Jerry opened up the throttle and we motored off to Ant.
After a fun filled day of diving and fishing, exploring the jungle and chilling out in under the palms, Joe's words truly resonated with me. So often we go on surf trips focused only on riding waves that we miss so much in between. One of the great things about being here at PSC is that Allois really encourages guests to get out and about and see the island and really experience island life in this part of the Pacific.
Of course, that all goes out the window when the waves are pumping! When P-Pass is on it's all about the waves. This season has been pretty consistent so far, there's been days of glassy barreling perfection that have been backed up with plenty of days of 3-4 foot fun, not "all time" P-Pass, but when there's only five guys in the water all day it's "this is the best trip of my life" calls all the way back to camp!
Here's a selection of shots of our stoked guests from the last month.
See you soon,
