When surf trips are planned months in advance there's usually a good chance the waves won't co-operate.

One such trip was pencilled in for last weekend, but this time the charts lit up with a series of strong easterly swells pushing across the Tasman Sea.

With an early leave pass granted on Friday afternoon, the boards were packed, beers stocked and the car pointed towards the highway with the end destination being somewhat of a magical place.
