Coolangatta: The Golden Mile
The Superbank has taken a bit of a public beating over the last couple of years. Following its hey day in the early to mid 2000's, increasingly erratic sand patterns have somewhat reduced the number of A-grade days in Coolangatta, with long spells of mediocrity between sand pumping shifts.
This hasn't stopped the crowds though, and with beachfront highrises bursting skyward at an incredible rate, the Gold Coast City Council has plenty of incentive to keep the south-eastern corner of the state as busy as possible.
And for the current state of play? As you've seen by all of the Sessions galleries over the last few days, the sand is in perfect shape at the moment. It only took three feet of easterly swell to deliver some of the best barrels in months across the Golden Mile. Alex Ormerod was there, and took some great lineup shots plus some bonus sequences of Joel Parkinson. //BEN MATSON
