Part 2 of another great year of surf around the country, that being 2013.

The weekend's swell on the East Coast was one to keep the working man happy; it hit Friday, built Saturday to an overnight peak, then tapered slowly on Sunday.

Swellnet forecaster Craig Brokensha scarfed the fruits of his own labour on the weekend. After issuing a swell alert for the east coast last Tuesday - "not big, but very well groomed," he said - Craig dialled in his observations through the latter parts of the working week. As Friday arvo drew near he scoped an ideal stretch of coast and hit the highway.

The surf pulsed in Sydney late yesterday owing to a low pressure system not far offshore. Although the swell peaked overnight this morning saw strong six foot plus lines on every beach open to the east. Swellnet forecaster, Craig Brokensha, drove Sydney's Northern Beaches shooting some of the reefs and ledges that lit up under the onslaught.

It was never going to be a swell that lit up the whole coast. That was the early consensus on Tuesday's swell on the East Coast; the weather was too dynamic, the wind was going to play havoc. But for those who put the effort in there were the odd pockets of power and perfection.

Swellnet forecaster, Craig Brokensha, traversed the NSW South Coast and found a few waves and very few people.
