"It's an old school-vibe comp," explains Tim Hain of the upcoming Earth Island Surf Fest, "kinda like the Good Vibrations comp we did years ago."

To be held 5th and 6th October at Pererenan Beach, Canggu, the Earth Island Surf Fest is more community gathering than dead ahead surf contest. For one, it's a teams event - twenty teams of five with at least one woman per team - and secondly, the surfers are limited in their craft.

Yet whereas the old Good Vibrations comp had everyone on single fins, Earth Island Surf Fest will see boards from Cabianca, Bali's own 80 Surfboards, Christenson, Channel Islands, and Sharpeye.

To ensure fairness of equipment, each team member will surf all the available boards; no board can be used twice by any surfer.

The contest will be held over two days with each team surfing twice, with a points leaderboard to decide the Final 5 for the final round.

The festival is presented by Island Brewing with everyone welcome on the beach.
