Luke Hynd // The Set Menu - video

The trend in surf clips is to go longer, stretch it out to more than the length of a song, show some variety, and put a bit more personality on display. The risk is that time-poor cube monkeys will react against the slower tempo and rush to the next 30 second shark clip, though for those willing to invest a bit more time there's reward for the extended sitting. Get into the filmmakers groove and enjoy the mix of imagery, music, and action.

So without any further ado it's Darcy Ward and Luke Hynd in The Set Menu...

Yep he sure does ... as feedback for the creators from a muso - the music was ... rather dull. All that good atmospheric film work and then a fairly lousy selection of tracks over the top that didn't do it justice. The longer the movie the more it counts. IMO there is sooo much awesome stuff out there you could have used that is rarely used. For example locally - Augie March, Ned Boynton, Grand Salvo. Worldly - Beats Antique, Erich Bachman, Tinariwen, Cake, Ween, Beck, Pink Floyd.

Search as hard as you do for that as you do to find waves and you would have the complete package.

Dunno about your list, but agree the music definitely let it down.

Yeh I don't normally list actual bands/musicians but been collecting a long time and couldn't help it. Worth checking out a few if you have time.

Will do dyzla.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Should be good for that New Year's Eve party I've got planned for the big one ....1999!

The new millennium should be brought in with such modern sounds as Beck, Cake , Weezer etc etc.

Want to come ?

I disagree. I think the selection complimented the atmosphere of the film well. I think all of us could throw up a list of our personal fave bands, let's face it, there are tens of thousands of artists that could have suited. Film making is a creative expression and like all forms of art it is subjective. With that said, one is well within their right to dislike the soundtrack and offer constructive feedback too. I'm sure the creator of the film liked the selection of tracks though and any true artist should create to please themselves foremost. Besides, Paul Kelly lousy? How can you not like PK? You won't get any more local than that....hey, but that's just me and my subjectiveness.
