Incredible footage from Wednesday's opening day at Jaws. Runs for six minutes with every second wave a highlight, and in Albee Layer's case, every wave. Layer puts on a display theat boggles the mind. If this is where the big wave standard is now it's gonna be a hell of a season.

Shane Dorian … a class act. Great surfing by all.

Layer's board is a lot shorter than the rest. Way more manoeuvrable. I've often wondered if they've gone too far on length and traded off too much in terms of board control and weight

Yeah but he was sitting inside grabbing the (relatively) smaller ones. Seemed a calculated ploy, the way he was angling straight from takeoff and lining up the barrel. Not sure he would've had the same success hunting the mackers.

Check this water footage from the same swell. Amazing capture by Elliot Leboe:

That wave of Dorians , ( with the cheeky cover up ) . Had more water in the spit than most singular waves ridden by the surfing masses day in day out .

Water footage was something else again Stu. Clifftop perspective is always great for seeing but very hard to get a sense of what it really looks like in the water.
