Matt Scarff fundraising appeal
Matt Scarff is a Byron Bay surfer who has run a surf school in Bali for the past 14 years. On Saturday morning he was king hit outside a nightclub in Seminyak and suffered severe head trauma. Matt immediately underwent surgery to remove a blood clot and release pressure on the brain and will shortly be medi-vacced to Australia.
Matt's cousin, Tony Maguire, has started a fundraiser site where people can donate to Matt's spiralling medical costs. Click here for further details.

do we have any news of matts condition , stu ,freeride ?
Yeah Udo, he got flown to Perth last night, not Darwin as was first reported. There's a few questions being asked about the perpetrator but no concete answers. I've spoken to DFAT twice, y/day and today, but there's little they can say.
Matt's cousin Tony has a quote about his condition, vague as it is, in this article published 5 hours ago: http://au.news.yahoo.com/a/19929637/australian-matt-scarff-victim-of-bali-punch-attack-to-be-flown-home-by-careflight/
He's in Perth, still in an induced coma, but with some very positive signs.
Careflight paramedic said he was trying to move on the flight to Perth, as opposed to lying there like a blob, which is a very good sign.
He's currently being assessed by the top neurosurgeons in Oz.
I hope all goes well for Matt and he pulls through ok.
And hopefully the bloke that hit will get his comeuppance.
I think this is a very important reminder that shit happens overseas and i can't understate the importance of having travel insurance complete with medi-evac.
$50-$60 and you're covered, less than a night out on the turps.
perth now report that matt has undergone a second operation and is in an induced coma, the family are asking for privacy at this time.
keep donating aust.
$76000 donated so far.
good news, matt has woken from his induced coma and able to wink and nod and give the thumbs up.
Things are looking up. "After two operations, [Scarff] awoke from an induced coma a week ago and smiled, winked and nodded at his family."
