JJF x Lee 'Scratch' Perry x Jack Johnson
Now here's one hell of a collaboration: Lee 'Scratch' Perry remixing Jack Johnson with JJF - courtesy of Parallel Sea - providing the visuals.
As expected, there's a bit of backstory.
In 2020, Johnson reached out to Perry to record a dub album. “Growing up in Hawaii, with reggae music always on the radio, Lee 'Scratch' Perry was a living legend," said Johnson. "When I found out he was up for remixing a few of my songs I was blown away. The remixes evolved and he ended up adding his voice to my songs."
As fans are aware, Perry passed away in 2021 bringing the project to a halt. However, Subatomic Sound System, Perry’s band of the last decade, contacted Johnson and said they had all the pieces to complete the album.
So now Perry sings from beyond the grave, over the top of Jack Johnson's beach toons, and with JJF on the controls, for this song at least.

Truly fccckn awful.
Sure is, the worst part is this though: with the stunning beautiful colours of the ocean and breaking waves, especially barreling waves, why the HELL would anyone ever film it in black and white????? Has truly got me stuffed. Go film some run down high rises in some huge crapped out city if u want grey tone stuff, jeez!
Chillin with the dub master, Jack's cool tone and John's wave mastery.. All together is enuf to brightin up my day
Cheers for that Stu
Only Jack Johnson could make two absolute masters of their art look/sound so shit. I hope the estate of LSP isn’t going on a legacy trashing cash grab to rival J Dilla’s crew.
Edit - actually Ben Harper and X Rudd would probably give it a pretty good nudge too.
Blasphemy
Sorry MR Johnson , that does not pass . Yikes !!!!!!!
Much rather listen to Panic in Babylon by the late, great dub master .
Well that was shit....certainly no skeletons from out of space having a party on that one
Didnt do it for me either.
But I do have one regret in life regarding Jack Johnston though, the first time he came to Australia and played a bar on the Goldie i didn't go with my flatmates and friends as when they played him i wrote him off, at the time, my mindset was id rather listen to Ben Harper, not sure why you cant listen to both, but at the time i was a too cool for school a woke indie kid.
Years latter i bought my wife Jacks first two albums and i have to say i really dig those albums, just some nice mellow laid back tunes for a certain mood.
I think we have the next two albums, but really with some artist you only need a couple albums.
Id never bother seeing him now,, i hate stadium gigs but it would have been a good memory to have seen him in a pub at a time when he still only had good songs released.
Nah, no great loss imo. I have seen him, and sure, there's nothing wrong or offensive about his music.
I can see why people dig him, but same as you, he does nothing for me.
And at the time, I also preferred Ben harper and G Love in that genre.
G Love is infinitely more fun and interesting that Jack Johnson.
Barely in the same genre.
Well G Love is multigenre.
Anyway, if you want me to be more specific I suppose we could say the JJ genre includes Donovan Frankenreiter and beautiful girls.
While ok in the background at a cafe or if you’re trying to tune a beautiful woman that’s into it, I’m not gonna go out of my way to see them or buy their albums.
Agreed.
Suffice to say that I was dragged along to a Beautiful Girls gig back in the day and it was pretty painful, and when I saw G Love it was huge fun.
Harsh crowd.
Post Coviditis maybe.?
Lee Perry master of roots! Always tried different stuff so what’s the problem?
Yeah tough crowd it was just a clip guys a bit ho hum, very forgettable but not that bad. Jack is similar to a lot of artists/bans who sound good on a record but live - a bit boring. I could put Dinosaur Jr in that group love the band but Masics is a dud on stage.
