Watch: Twiggy Baker // Edge Gun
Been a few years now that Twig has been sniffing around Edge boards without fully committing to the design. In 2019 he had some Edges made by Californian shaper Mike Wallace, though aside from a few dry land photos Twig's curiosity appeared to wane - there was no footage of him surfing them.
Last year, however, Mike again made Twig some Edge guns and this time he did surf them. Not in huge waves, the vid here shows him in solid waves at Ocean Beach and Mavs, but more importantly he's incorporated the design into this year's Mavs quiver.
With the season just beginning, keep an eye out for Twig dropping into the bowl. If he's on a big brown gun, then it's highly likely it'll be one of Wallace's Edge designs - the brown arising from basalt-cloth used in lieu of traditional fibreglass.

Did I see a clip of Twiggy spearing a massive wave at Mavs on an edge gun?
Haven't seen it myself.
This clip is a short drone film about last season, which includes a very big wave of Twig's where he falls, but he's riding one of the blue Pukas guns, and then later in the clip there are two waves on the brown Edge guns that are also included in the video above only filmed from a different angle.
Three-stroke takeoff at Mavs on an edge gun. Cool as a cucumber.
Nice wave and all, but it shows how diabolical last season was when that wave wins the award for largest paddle wave.
Thats the clip I was thinking of IB.
I think I saw another angle which made the wave look bigger.
That's mental.
The twigg always branches out,
go the twigg,
Great surfing articles of late too swellnet'ers.
I like the look of these boards. Seem to be able to take a drop. Is the wake a little wider coming off the board?
Those beachies looked like quite the challenge, I thought it might be France with the outer bank.
A couple of piano malfunctions in the soundtrack.
1:25 onwards @super Slow Mo gives a good look at the start finish of the Edge - Fin Cant and Toe
And its like a Hovercraft going over Bumps and Chop...
And that Chap @ 1:50 farkn Flogged
On something Shorter in Warmer Water
Thanks for posting this Stu!
The cloth is our Aussie made Basalt/Flax Hybrid . We have been working on cloths with Mike for a few years now and He has refined his layups to include the Basalt Flax in his range.
Last year he won a few awards (Best in show) at " The Boardroom Show" Event for this style of board.
On a superficial level it looks really nice.
So sick he is testing edge boards in bigger waves! He definitely seems to be engaging rail earlier on his waves than others on traditional shapes
I love how Twig keeps trying things
George Greenough design from mid 1960's.
