Watch: Von Froth // Big, Nasty Greenbush
The latest clip from Nic von Rupp sees Greenbush at its upper size limit, with an already heavy wave ratcheting up a few notches in the danger stakes.
Interestingly, the near-unmakeable end section becomes more ridable at this size, yet it's every other part of the wave that has the capacity to maim - check Nathe Behl's head, back, and nose for the results of an untimely off.

That made me extremely uncomfortable.
Greenbush like that is bucket list for me.
Hell no! I'll take photos!
You maniac sprout
Don't tell me you wouldn't have a sniff.
Hmmm probably would have to, regret it for ever if you didn’t. But geez it looks pretty full on
jeez ive only surfed the bush 2/3 that size ... what a challenge it looks at 8+!
That's proper heavy. Why aren't they wearing wetsuits and helmets?
Mix of Indonesian perfection and Australian slab. No thanks!
You have to be on top of your game to even consider that..... Even then I would think twice
Totally, that land angle shows how heavy, fast and crazy it is. Looks more 'mellow' from side on.
So far above my geriatric level. Proper bloody heavy.
I was impressed with Nate Behl's lines. He's very good aye.
Totally with you on that IB
Fuck! I guess they do hit the reef. That whole video made me feel deeply uncomfortable. You know if you were there you would have to give it a go. It actually looks slightly more makeable through that end section at this size... Not friendly though, thats for sure.
Been there when it was near that size. Got good footage and paddled out and back again.lol
Need big coconuts for that and my snow peas were not happy.
The boiz had fun
That’s big for the Bush.
Nate definitely needs more board...
Wow..........would be interesting to see the fabled Damien Hobgood session at 12ft Bush and surfing solo. That would be just a little bit more silly. A quote along the lines of "not today" as he hugged a head of coral, caught inside with death sets bombing on him.
Having snapped a leggy, getting pumped and swimming into the cove, I can imagine, but have no real comprehension :-)
is there any footage of this session, would be awesome to see
Apparently not, but the day after is in Strange Rumblings

Sick footage, HORRENDOUS edit.
It’s definitely top five worst songs I’ve ever heard in a surf video :
“ Where my niggaz at , Where the bitches at “ Repeated 50 times…..ughhhhh.
It’s definitely top five worst songs I’ve ever heard in a surf video :
“ Where my niggaz be at , Where my bitches be at “ Repeated 50 times in a yell…..ughhhhh.
I would have 'missed' the boat and been very happy to surf pumping Rifles.
10ft Greenbush aint on my bucket list! Unreal viewing though and hats off to those crew.
Is give it a miss. Happy to admit I know my limits.
Insane!!!
Heavy. Nice stitch up!
That's a nup from me.
Wonder if Nate's head blew up from all the coral stuck in there
I’ve surfed GB once at 3-5ft, 40min either side of high tide, light northerly on it. Unforgettable. I can confidently say - even with those relatively benign conditions - it is the heaviest 4ft wave I’ve surfed in 35 years. What that footage doesn’t show is a surfer’s POV angle paddling in. It is pretty much a ledge slab - back-less and with a vertical take off. You are either on top of the wave as it runs away beneath you or you are scratching like fuck, sling-shot accelerating down the face, trying not to look at the reef..
as much as i hate the self promoter von overfroth i take my hat off to him and his mates ...guttsy stuff.......great vid
Ridiculous stuff. It’s a privilege just to be able to watch such talented and daring people risking their lives in pursuit of their passion.
Even better when you realise that First Nation’s language has gone international. I usually find it hard to stomach Von Rupp’s bits to camera but it made me feel happy when he starts talking about the “bombie”breaking out the back. Deadly!
100% Blowin. Our mobs’ going global!
Props to those lads. Huge level of committment and some big wipeouts. Thats heavy stuff.
Unbelievable but I'll stick to 3ft Pt Leo thanks very much.
Yes, Point Leo is as wild I as get. That footage looked a bit scary really.
That's solid maybe biggest footage ive seen of it, those guys are just nuts, it crazy people dont get more hurt or even die. (head knock etc)
You seriously dont want to go snorkel and see what that reef looks like either, it not flat has huge deep cave like ledges.
Id have been happy just surfing that first left, although Roxies was probably pumping to.
BTW. One thing they do good with these videos, is they really give you a feeling of being there, these video's feel and show things exactly how they are no BS.
Yeah....nah.
If immortals like VonPromo get launched on the first takeoff and McNasty gets touched up like that, I don't even want to imagine what would happen to old farts like me.
fukn heavvvvvvvyyyyy
I don't know what you pussies are on about.
I'd surf that everyday of the week in my dreams if I could.
That was great to watch... super heavy
nates board is 6ft..........
Yeah, but also, a thing to remember is that these blokes aren’t showing the statue of say, Owen Wright. If you were a particularly nuggety feller a 6’0 will feel like a 6’4”.
A bit premature for a statue of Owen, brando. After all he only won a bronze.
Hats off to all of them ! Very intense just looking at it on my PC .
It is a necessity on every boat or island that there is someone who can patch dings in people ,
Not sure how they learn to do it as most would have no medical training . For all the scrapes and cuts the clear waterproof bandages are a gods send and a must pack item in your medical box . They saved me .
Pretty much nobody wears reef booties these days. My angle is that they allow you to hit the the reef with your feet rather than your back. I don't think it would have made much difference on a day like this, but I reckon in general booties can save you a lot of pain.
