The 2023 SURFTAG SERIES will kick off on 9th & 10th September with the Men’s, Women’s and Master’s Divisions followed by the Under 18’s and Under 14’s at the GYG JUNIOR SURFTAG being held on 28th & 29th October.

Long Reef’s Sydney Chevalier was a standout at last years Women’s SURFTAG and is excited to be representing the club, “tag teams are always fun and everyone is happy down on the beach”, Chevalier said. “You can’t just think about yourself you have to think about the team and be fast but still catch some good waves. It’s a lot of pressure surfing for the club but when you do good you feel so much better than if you do good surfing on your own”.

Chevalier will be joined by Murray Bamberry’s mother Fiona in the Long Reef Women’s team who recently finished second at the Australian Surfing Championships Over 50’s Division. “It’s pretty fun to surf with all your mates as we are all friends and tag team brings so much pressure and everyone is trying their hardest and with all the running out and running in it’s heaps of fun”, Bamberry said.

Long Reef won last year’s SURFTAG SERIES ahead of North Narrabeen and Queenscliff. The Northern Beaches based Club won the Under 18 Division and finished runners up in the Under 14’s and Master’s along with a third place finish in the Women’s and fifth in the Men’s.

Twenty Boardriding Clubs between Merewether and Ulladulla will compete in the series with over 400 surfers representing their local Boardriding Clubs.

Guzman y Gomez (GYG) is incredibly proud to be sponsoring SURFTAG for the second year and see young surfers from across Sydney and surrounding areas compete.

“GYG has been feeding athletes of all levels and ages their pre and post-match meals for years and we’re excited to be feeding SURFTAG competitors again. Surfing is a sport that keeps so many athletes of all ages fit and healthy. We truly are fast food that athletes say yes to!”

The 2023 SURFTAG SERIES is proudly supported by Guzman y Gomez, Dripping Wet Surf Shop, Swellnet, Sky Monkey 5, Tawny Frogmouth & Manly Observer.
