2014 Corona Yorkes Classic presented by Billabong
Held on Sunday at Westcape Beach in heaving 6 to 8 foot waves. The field of 32 surfers had their work cut out. Onshore South East winds early made for hard conditions but the as the winds turned offshore and the swell increased spectators and surfers were treated to some of the best conditions held in the 31 year history. With some solid surfing it boiled down to just 4 men. Brett Edwards (Adelaide), Alex Rix and Khai Adams (Victor Harbour) and previous winner Teale Vanner (Kangaroo Island).
The final started with Vanner and Adams getting off to a moderate start both locking in a 4.67. However with 10 mins gone Rix carved out 2 huge power turns on a solid set wave and was rewarded with an 8.17 and had one hand on the trophy. Vanner answered back and secured a 7 point ride only to find himself sitting in second as Rix backed up his good score with a 5.17. Edwards and Adams kept themselves in the conversation by having mid-range scores. But with just 40 seconds left and needing a huge score Edwards took off on a perfect left hander and rode cleanly out of the tube to complete a huge floater over the closeout section and received a 9.17 and the win.
