Considering that in 2000 Bush Jnr won the Presidency on the basis of Florida's electoral votes by a margin of only 537 votes out of almost six million cast and as a result became the president-elect. That process took at least a month.

So if Trump loses by any amount, and in the tone of military parlance 'all options are on the table', there is the possible scenario below, which they would be well aware of.
