Australia
Is the idea to post things we love about Australia?
In that case, first things that come to mind...
-The mixing pot of cultures; particularly when it comes to food. I can (well, outside of pandemic-times) drive but a short distance and enjoy a meal from any of the world's great cuisines. Also ideas.
-Relative freedom of religious expression (albeit that isn't enshrined in law in NSW)
-Relative peace, security and stability
-Great climate, good waves
-Amazing landscapes
Of course, plenty of other places have similar benefits!
Short plane ride away
You can call a politician, and your mate, a cunt.

short plane ride away from? Tasmania?
Wang Xining, deputy head of mission of China’s embassy in Australia at today's National Press Club of Australia address:
"I know some people do not like some of the ideas from China. And Chinese people...
[but]
I don’t see any reason for whining about your constitutional fragility and your intellectual vulnerability."
I'll always love Australia.
I'm proud to say I'm Australian anywhere I go in the world.
Despite our constitutional fragility and my intellectual vulnerability.
The red dirt, the vast panoramas and the music.
I know these guys, my bro filmed this clip.
(If only people wouldn't try and incite drama all over the forums).
DSDS, I saw Neil Murray play in Broome, a little quiet gig, he was fantastic, mostly acoustic.
I hear the fishing's pretty good in Aus.
so's the beer...
Bon Scott's biography written by his wife, paints a great picture of the band in the early days and Bon's time gigging before acca dacca. There's some pretty funny stuff in it and a cool look at the music scene back then.
Great (cough, cough) Aussie band and infamous (homecoming) gig there, Rabbit.
Great pick Rabbsy.
Classic Aussie indeed!
Raise ya one
And 'Sounds of Then' too! Gold. Reminds me of of Mad Wax.
Aussie bogans are the best
Great AC/DC Rabs. They were so tight in that clip. Phil Rudd really keeping it together. I rock that exact version in the car.
100% Zen & Westie.
It just sums up that band so well I reckon.
Its a go to in my car as well :-)
Epic Oils Westie! How good!
Classic GF.
I hear ya Facto. Still worthy.
Can’t argue with these fellas credentials.....
This probably seems like a weird choice, but like Richie says before the video it's a pretty good snap shot of the Aussie 80s urban sprawl that still continues today. To me it's just got a very Aussie feel to the song and the video, plus the Rifles and Lovelock very Aussie.
XD falcons
Terminal what about, "a 1962 ruby red interior
R series Valiant, mother fucker of a car".
(From the waifs song above).
Indo can drive it on the town streets:
Aussie films
After the tragic accidental death of her husband, my mother in-law emigrated to Australia from a poorer country where she had limited prospects and managed to create a future for herself as single mum with two daughters.
That's one of the things I like about Australia.
And I was for awhile able to be one of the "dingos [that] are paid to live under the sun".
I like that about Australia too.
This could turn out to be a great thread if it doesn't devolve into a pissing contest.
I'd like to recommend a movie. It's based on a Peter Carey novel and it's called 'Bliss'. Dark, humorous, touching, satirical, tragic, beautiful. In my opinion, ahead of its time. I haven't seen it for years but i'd like to revisit it.
Stars Barry Otto and Gia Carides.
I think directed by the bloke that did Lantana years later. Happy to be corrected.
Well worth a watch.
Fark, that looks epic. Possibly some inspiration for George Miller there.
You lucky bastards!!!
What I would do to be in Oz right now.
I'm an expat surfer living in Sweden, the usual story, falling for a Swede, moving here and now waiting until my daughters are old enough to take care of themselves before I come back home.
Been here 10 years and have had many trips to the EU continent, Africa, trying to get my surfing fix. But 3-6 weeks a year doesn't cut the mustard. Nor does surfing in Sweden, it has to blow a gale to surf, most times it's onshore.
I surfed (or had the opportunity to) every day back home in Vicco before I left. Surfed since I was 8 (now 48).
Iv,e read every comment, watched every video you've posted here on this thread, awesome music and memories.
I check in on swellnet pretty much every day just to keep me sane.
I'm homesick!
All I can say to you LUCKY BASTARDS (caaarnts as Gra would say) who live by the coast in Oz and have an opportunity to surf every day is...ENJOY every wave, ENJOY the smell of Eucalyptus and wattle, finding a beach to yourself, the people behind the cash register who say gidday how's it goin? (Swedes are so conservative, they don't do that), the iconic music and live shows (when it comes).
I could go on and on.
Aussies (who live in Australia), really are lucky bastards!
YOU REALLY ARE A LUCKY BASTARD!
second that Bliss call Zen.
epic, epic opening sequence.
It's a movie based on the Peter Carey novel of the same name. Also a good read.
"...the people behind the cash register who say gidday how's it goin?"
Yeah, I love that being able to say 'g'day mate, how are you going? ' to anyone you meet anytime... passing strangers in the street or whatever...
You can get some strange looks of bewilderment doing that in some countries. Great post Älskarhavet
matlock, what does this mean?
"dingos [that] are paid to live under the sun".
It's great hearing stories like your mother in law's.
Saw Bliss, the one starring Barry Otto, years ago. Weird shit, still remember some of the scenes. Didn't Barry's character grow a certain tree in the rain forest to attract bees to flavour honey in a unique way.
The land, the history, the stories, the people.
This article is about the indigenous warrior of the 1800s.
Jandamarra or Tjandamurra (c. 1873—1 April 1897), (the Europeans called him "Pigeon"),[1] was an Indigenous Australian of the Bunuba people who led one of the few organised armed insurrections documented against European settlement in Australia. https://military.wikia.org/wiki/Jandamarra

.
Tjandamurra was from Bunuba country.
Landed in Melbourne in 1991 with $5k and two suitcases between us. Both got jobs within 2 months of arriving and never looked back. The end game is near with a little humpy on the coast, a tinnie for fishing and a shed full of surfboards. This country and it's people are fucking beautiful!!!
Correct Guy.
Harry grew trees to attract the bees to win back Honey Barbara.

And ofcourse there’s our unique game!
Here’s just a taste.....
The early morning singing of magpie's, cockatoos and kookaburras.
A chart buster!
"Well I heard it on the radio
And I saw it on the television
Back in 1988, all those talking politicians
Words are easy, words are cheap
Much cheaper than our priceless land
But promises can disappear
Just like writing in the sand
Treaty yeah treaty now treaty yeah treaty now
Nhima djatpangarri nhima walangwalang (You dance djatpangarri, that's better)
Nhe djatpayatpa nhima gaya' nhe marrtjini yakarray (You're dancing, you improvise, you keep going, wow)
Nhe djatpa nhe walang gumurrt jararrk gutjuk (You dance djatpangarri, that's good my dear paternal grandson)
This land was never given up
This land was never bought and sold
The planting of the union jack
Never changed our law at all
Now two river run their course
Seperated for so long
I'm dreaming of a brighter day
When the waters will be one
Treaty yeah, treaty now, treaty yeah, treaty now
Nhima gayakaya nhe gaya' nhe (You improvise, you improvise)
Nhe gaya' nhe marrtjini walangwalang nhe ya (You improvise, you keep going, you're better)
Nhima djatpa nhe walang (You dance djatpangarri, that's good)
Gumurr-djararrk yawirriny' (My dear young men)
Nhe gaya' nhe marrtjini gaya' nhe marrtjini (You improvise, you keep improvising, you keep going)
Gayakaya nhe gaya' nhe marrtjini walangwalang (Improvise, you improvise, you keep going, that's better)
Nhima djatpa nhe walang (You dance djatpangarri, that's good)
Gumurr-djararrk nhe yå, e i, e i, e i i i, i i i, i i i, i i (You dear things)
Treaty ma' (Treaty now)
Promises disappear - priceless land - destiny
Well I heard it on the radio
And I saw it on the television
But promises can be broken
Just like writing in the sand
Treaty yeah treaty now treaty yeah treaty now
Treaty yeah treaty now treaty yeah treaty now
Treaty yeah treaty ma treaty yeah treaty ma
Treaty yeah treaty ma treaty yeah treaty ma"
Any reason at all to find a way to show your love of this incredible land.
