I think you might find an inverse relationship between the quality of the surf and the quality of the contributions.

I think it's got to do with subject matter also, while we are all surfers and most articles and topics are surfing related we all have an interest in different surfing related subjects and articles.

To hazard a guess, Melted Welly, and going purely from the example directly above, perhaps the answer lies in the failure to adhere to a medication regime? Getting dates and correct dosages and the like mixed up?

Hey welly mate, i have thought this to when the sn forums kind of absorbed me, made me feel important, angry, sad, like my voice was being heard, or my say mattered.
Then I realised I was becoming a douche. Like every 5 mins I was checking sn to see if someone replied to my bait, comment, rebute.
Then I thought What Da Fuck?
now i just actually check the wave details then bail..its fucking social media! Go and search forums and they are all the same...same type of crew

Noticably when theres fuckwits trolling the forums it makes a big difference to the amount of genuine participants who might want to discuss things . As soon as these gimps are on their personal quests I just take a break from my studies as a student of SN

I like your contributions and agree, so much to be gleaned from this site especially from the articles and regular contributors built up over a number of years.

As for the trolls, well that's another story.....

We all have our moments.... I also think the written word can be taken wrongly... I could say "fuck off "... Now depending how I meant it, and how you interpret it can be 2 totally different things...... But if you and I are sitting together after a surf in the park at burleigh, we watch a guy pull into a barrel... He doesn't come out.... You look at me and say "he should've made that".... I look back at you and say "fuck off"..... But you see the smirk on my face.... So saying "fuck off" face to face, you can see the intent behind the "fuck off"......
For example, I was in a playful mood when I wrote that post above..... If we were all sitting around having a rant and a shit stir, some would've laughed, some would said, "ya fuckn dick, sheepy".....

But the essence of your thread........ It's life..... The SN forum has it's ups and downs, it's good days, bad days, some folk you gel with , some you don't..... Some weeks are more interesting thanks to outside influences..... Some are boring as bat shit.....
