Had to drive roundtrip up to Perth city and back down to Margs on friday. What a cunt of an experience that has become. Between the country road users who travel 20km under the limit all the way (untill they speed up in the overtking lanes anyhow) and then once you get to the fwy and city stuck behind drivers who sit in the fast (well outside lane anyhow) all the way doing 80 wtf? No wonder the road rage stats are surging upward. Rather than using all the resources fining just speeding drivers and phone users (low hanging fruit for the cops) what about slow drivers or refusing to keep left drivers faarrrrk, they are just as dangerous" keep left unless overtaking"- so simple, seems to work on the east coast motorway? surely that can be enforced? Nextime you are sitting behind another asian girl/guy with teddy bears blocking the whole rear window on the fwy or a new merc with p plates driving like they are they only person in the world just imagine you are in WA , driving here is a fucking joke.

Anyway, my vent? Devices. I'm noticing more and more this umbilcal attachment to smartphones and things like PSP's and DS.

Don't get me wrong, I love my phone and use it often but it's not life ending if I go without it for a few hours. Also, I don't need to upgrade every year. I usually keep my phones for 3 or 4 years at least. But the point I'm trying to make is that these devices are communication killers, not enhancers. People have lost the art of conversation. People can't write because they're so used to limiting their writing to txt-speak.

A couple of examples- the other day my wife and I went out to dinner, no biggie but I look around and very few people are talking. The table next to us (father, mother and two teenage daughters) the three girls glued to their phones, dad left sitting there staring into space or re-arranging the condiments. As soon as the meal came they ate in silence (quickly) and as soon as the first one had finished, straight back on to the phone. Table next to them, girl couldn't even put her phone down and ate one handed while fixated to that little screen.

Yesterday shopping, same thing, guy sat there in silence on his phone, cute wife bored out of her mind staring out the window. I really wanted to leave him a note saying 'free advice mate, pay more attention to your wife'. I was pissed off but my wife said let it go, none of our business.

Zombies walking down the street, not paying attention to their surrounds, glued to these fucking soul-suckers yet if they get hit by a car, under Japanese law the pedestrian is never at fault under any circumstance. But in the cars the same, you see their eyes in their rearview mirrrors, constantly up down like they're watching somebody on a pogo stick, you know what they're really doing though and it aint concentrating on the road.

Finally, again at dinner the other day a dad tried to get his kid to put down his DS to eat his dinner and after 5 or 6 failed attempts at asking him he tried to forcibly remove it from his hands. I have never seen such a tantrum thrown by a child in public, it was embarrasing. I wanted to smash that fucking thing to really give the little bugger something to cry over.

I went to the Museo del Prado in Madrid last year and was in awe of the beautiful artwork there and marvelled at how humans can create such beauty in their minds and channel it through their fingertips. To see these magnificent works of art with my own eyes took my breath away. To see children walking around glued to PSP's totally oblivious to the wonder that surrounded them made my heart sink. My wife is an avid reader so we pop into the public library once a month, it's kind of ironic to see kids quietly sitting in the play section not reading, but focussed on their DS.

I thank my parents for not indulging us too much when it came to computer games. I love them for the fact that dinner time was at the table, as a family, talking with the TV turned off.

Now we've had a version of this conversation before Zen, whereby I mentioned Japanese surfers being shepherded by Indo locals into waves and you presented a few scenarios as an explanation for their actions . You also gave good insight into their culture and explained the possible dynamics behind their behaviour.

I was grateful for this advice as it enable me to view their behaviour from a different perspective.
Unfortunately, new information has come to light that reveals some Japanese surfers to be utter cunts that are now getting Balinese to not only block for them , but to actually get PUSHED into any and every set wave they fancy as their arms are apparently too weak to propel them into these undeserved waves.

Yes, you read that correctly - the Balinese push their boards into the waves at the proper reef breaks in the same manner as the absolute beginners at Kuta beach, only these fuckers can sort of surf.

Any wave , whether someone is already riding or not.

And then the Balo's erupt if someone complains .

The new information I'm talking about is the 3 seperate sessions I had ruined by these scum. Witnessed it and endured it myself.

This is not a case of the demure, intimidated , polite Jap being overwhelmed by the insistence of an over - eager surf guide. This is blatant commercialisation of the surf zone.

With a side order of organised , stand over behaviour thrown in just to really destroy any good feelings that going for a surf may generate.

These cunts are basically buying exclusivity to the surf.

Having never been to Bali and from what I read not really wanting to, if what you're saying is true then I believe that kind of behaviour is inexcusable. Doesn't matter what country the person comes from, if they can't get in to a wave on their own steam they really shouldn't be out there should they?

As for the Balos condoning and encouraging that (no doubt for the currency on the end of it) they can go fuck themselves too. They won't be getting any of my hard earned.

As an aside, I don't know where they're getting this from? The Japanese (usually) don't seem to have this dog eat dog mindset. That's why they're, for the most part, hopeless competitors on the world stage in most sports. I must say, I'm a little baffled.
