Alright, time for some discussion on what yr all listening too. My iTunes inventory is getting a little stale so I'm up for some inspiration.

Currently loving The Drones' album "Havilah".. incredible songwriting and some of the best recorded guitars and drum I've heard in a long time. I'm a little late to the party with this album but it's on high rotation at the moment and will probably stay there a while. I've seen these guys live once (Fowlers, Adelaide) and fortunately they're incredible on stage too. Can't wait to see them again.

I know it's an obscure crowd on SN that are into this same sort of stuff as me, but here's a little lullaby to go to sleep to by one of my all time favourites....epic to listen to when down by the wild ocean..trust me.

Ten year anniversary this week of the release of FJM's debut album, 'Fear Fun'

To commemorate the occasion, please enjoy the connoisseurs edition of 'I'm Writing A Novel' on this Sunday, the day of our Lord and Father (John Misty)

Up there with The Radiators as the hardest working Aussie band of all time. Sometimes it seems they were playing hundreds of gigs a week, such was the regularity of their name in the gig guides.

Unapologetic stalwarts of rocking good times. Throw in some shitty biker speed, endless bourbon and cokes and a desperate grinding one night stand and you’ve accounted for a good percentage of Australian nightlife for a fair few years there.

Never an acknowledged favourite but extremely reliable fun back in the day.

Hey Constance.

Why don’t you just create a thread titled “ I don’t like Indo or DSDS’s opinions and will relentlessly whine about them regardless of the subject matter or substance.”

Surely that’s be better than trying to reword the same dull sentiment in a slightly different variation 300 times every week?

Certainly would make it easier to ignore.

Here they are as a four piece and another anthem.

First time I saw them live was when they were the keystone angels. I was 12 and they were playing at the local hall in blackwood south oz . Beers were 20cents a cup and they served anyone. Lost count the amount of times I saw them at the playroom and jetclub . Last time I saw them was at yamba 2005 or 06 on a reunion tour of oz minus doc . Was down surfing angourie and when I went past the bowls club and saw them advertised as playing Saturday night decided to stay the night , they didn’t disappoint and twas a great night .

Jimmy Barnes reckoned The Angels were a bunch of domesticated ninnies*. They sure had an instinct for your basic driving beat guaranteed to get you to suck piss faster for a bunch of domesticated ninnies.

*According to his book

I've seen them a bunch of times both years ago and in their newer incarnations with Brewster bros and David Gleeson. Posted this before somewhere, but worth repeating...at Collendina in the 80's Doc Neeson jumped boots first into a brawling crowd who lifted him back up on stage singing the whole time.. Also saw them later with a Doc return at the Barwon Heads hotel maybe 10 or more years ago. Doc seemed uninterested until the crew started feeling the beer buzz and he fired up. You'd be lucky to get so many middle aged pissed men (and women) in the mosh pit again. Doc sucked down oxygen regularly during songs and they really put on a classic "one to remember" show.

I've been going through a phase recently where I think Steve Kilbey is just about Australia's greatest songwriter, up there with Don Walker and above Paul Kelly.

“So I asked Doc [its co-author], ‘Is it possible that you might have ripped off a Status Quo song?’ and he replied, ‘Err… I might have heard it at a disco,” John guffaws. “So we did some negotiation. We made them an offer, it was a private arrangement but, yeah, they [Quo] did get a piece of our song.”

Wow. No denying that. Bit more obvious than 'Down Under' and 'Kookaburra'

From the above article: Reckon this statement by Doc is intentional or not?

"However, Doc would not reconcile, telling Classic Rock a month before his passing: “Unless the brothers are willing to honour the agreement, I don’t want to see their faces again.”"

...and you know what comes after that line.

Bali in the 2010’s was pretty special. My girl and myself would work in the Pilbara for a few weeks, sweating and grafting our arses off ,them fly to Bali for a bit of recovery time before getting stuck back into the work. We were by no means unique in doing the FIFO / Bali thing back then. Amazing opportunity to bank fat stacks and still manage almost a dozen Indo trips a year.

There isn’t many better feeling in the world than your last day of work of the swing, locking your donga and heading to the airport with nothing but a backpack, a wallet full of cash and unrestrained freedom for the next week and a half. No check in luggage, boards waiting in Bali.

Day one was always a bit tender after working so hard for weeks, a red eye flight with a few celebratory beers en route and a body not yet accustomed to surfing again.

After that it was pure glory. Surf early then fit another one later in the day. Plenty of great food. It was nice to stroll around town in the evenings after a spectacular feed and a few drinks, body and mind nicely buckled by waves and sun. My lady would duck in and out of shops, not buying much as we had no where to store anything. Just indulging her desire to check it all out. I wasn’t much interested in shops so I’d just stroll around with her and get a bintang or a snack here and there and chill out on the street out front. The Balinese street hawkers and shop keepers never took long to start up a chat. After being there so many times they recognised you and didn’t give you the hard sell but we’re always keen to have a laugh.

All this to the backdrop of the crazily loud disco beats played by the various shops and restaurants. Everyone staffed by cute as a button Indo chicks or friendly Indo lads. The music played by your average surf shop was seriously louder than most nightclubs. I never thought it was my kind of beat but it seems they wore me down and the sound of the pop hits from that era now fills me with memory infused joy.

Rhianna, Taylor Swift, Bieber and Nikki Minaj et Al….thanks for the good times.

Indo you may have heard this this track too, got to a high ranking on the charts and played everywhere around 2007, 2008

I actually met this bunch on Jalan Jaksa in Jakarta and partied with them in Stadium when it was open.
was then invited to film a video clip with them which is this next one, full friendliest music stars ive ever met.

That's me at the start my role was white slavery carrying the cart. Friendliest crew ever, we then went to a gig and danced on stage.
