Now THAT was music: Why do your music tastes get frozen over in your twenties
A consolatory article for old pricks. I cant totally get aboard the conclusion but the author makes the odd good point.
My musically taste are so stuck in my 20's I'm even going back and digging through that era for new bands or albums mostly on youtube.
I try to get into new music/bands but i often find there is aspects i like but always aspects i don't like.
Also now there is just to much to trawl through, back before the internet the only way to find out about good music was through a friend, from a surf or skate video or mag, rage, or just going to an indie record store and taking a punt, or from seeing a band, normally a support act.
Now it's way too easy to click on a band on the net and go yay or nay after 3 seconds.
See what i mean
Got to agree with that Indo.
Off topic, Heres a fetstival called Fyre festival tickets were $1500
to $250 000 USD each. still going on but its like lord of the flies apparently.

The guardian clearly aren't good at covering entertainment news either.
"His hard rock peers paid tribute, beginning with Jane’s Addiction and Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Dave Navarro."
No shit, the last song playing my car as I switched off and came into work was an Audioslave track.
RIP.
He was awesome live.
Apparently its a hoax.

That article is written by Jessica Simpson, groundswell.
@Groundswell Sadly by the looks off that website I'm putting my money on it that, the article is a hoax to gain page views or something.

Sorry, have to share the Pineapple Face lyrics. Warped poetry from the mind of Jello.
(Oh yeah, how's Jourgensen & Ministry coming out here later...hmmm, we shall see...he's one sickly chap)
Red alert from the Dairy Queen
To Vatican from Panama City
Yeah, yeah
Calling Pope John Paul, ole buddy, ole pal
Hey, lemme crash at your place for a while
Yeah, yeah
I know I've shot your priests full of holes
But you forgave the guy who shot you
I'm being persecuted, man
Let me in, let me in
Yeah, yeah
Voodoo priestesses and interplanetary crack
I shall be released, thanks to my red underwear
Dignity battalions terrify and rule the streets
Pictures of the Smurfs tattooed on the sides of their jeeps
When the mouse that roared
Bites the elephant that feeds
Ringmaster cracks
20, 000 whips
Yeah, yeah
All I did was double-cross the CIA
G.E. and Lockheed do that every day
Yeah, aw yeah
The Gringoes seized all my pottery frogs
And teddy bears dressed in cammo fatigues
The Hitler poster by the Christmas tree
Save me, Tipper
They're blasting Bon Jovi at me
At me
Voodoo priestesses and interplanetary crack
I shall be released, thanks to my red underwear
Sex with boys and girls in my chopper high in the sky
When kinder gentler bombs
Explode in thousand points of light
Cara de Pina-Muere, muere
Cara de Pina-Muere, muere
Corrupto, asesino
Asesino
The Place is surrounded
I can't get away
Even sent the Stealth bomber
Just to prove it'll fly
For Yankee teen anguish
Use Pineapple Face
As American as where Coca Cola got its name
Yeah, oh yeah
I promise, monsignor, you can trust me
I'll even go on tour with David Crosby
Yeah, yeah
Forgive me, kids, drugs ruined my life
I'll even tell 'em condoms make you go blind
Yeh, yeh
Bloodthirsty cries of the people outside
Bloodthirsty cries of the people outside
Can't show my face, can't show my face
Can't show my face, or they'll tear it away
Cara de Pina-Muere, muere
Cara de Pina-Muere, muere
Corrupto, asesino
Asesino
Voodoo priestesses and interplanetary crack
Hafta wonder if this guy really exists
Who in their right mind would pose for Time Magazine
Frosted thumb in mouth, slicing his birthday cake with a machete
Cara de Pina-Muere, muere
Cara de Pina-Muere, muere
Corrupto, asesino
Asesino
Ding dong the witch is dead
More warm up in Uncle Sam's bullpen
Cartoon boogeyman to keep people scared
I believe every word 'cause the truth is too weird
Who framed Roger Rabbit
Who framed Khaddafi then blew up his kid
Nothing to do now but spill the beans
Florida here I come
Yeah

Greatest intro of all time....maybe.
Another one that may qualify if you were inclined to make definitive statements.

"Yes, son..."

SATAN! SATAN! SATAN!
Funny you posted that Stu, i came across this the other week and can't stop watching Cure vids.
This is pretty cool, so early the arrangement and lyrics are different.
And easily my favourite Dino Jr intro, i always have to start the song a few times, just the tone of his Big Muff and then straight into what Jay does best.
One fast, one slow.
Modern life.
Ahhh yes... The cure. I really dig their early more obscure stuff.
Modern life ?
Just the present incarnation of nature's humanity. Same as it ever was .
And it's the very urges that you despise - competition , ego dominance , power seeking, self belief - that further mankind in the constant battle against those that would overrun us.
Those being virus's , carnivores , omnivores and any other life form that would gain sustenance by overcoming us .
A pack of dogs would run you down and eat the flesh from your bones in the wilds . The dominance of man sees them as a domesticated companion.
Never forget that which awaits us should we lose our edge. Man as apex predator lulls many urbanites into a false sense of security .
The sentiments in your video are not to be lauded in the context you present , but without them humanity would falter .
Population growth and lifetime longevity are the benefits that you , me and everyone we love , hate or disregard enjoy due to the advantages that humanity attains due to these primal urges that are intrinsic to our nature.
The Wolves of humanity have the sheep to thank for society's compassion .
The sheep of humanity have the wolves to thank for their existence.
You need to leave the hydro alone...
Just mixing it up , brother .
Take it easy ....
Maybe this is what you you need ?

The most beautiful song - lyrically and melodically - ever written ?
https://m.
Big call Blowin. Probably not in my top 100.
Maybe not in mine either , to be honest.
But it's what's in front of my face right now and the mood struck me .
Got an insight into your list ?
Blowin I think it is hard to go past some of Leonard Cohen's songs if you are looking for that combination of poetic lyrics and a memorable melody. Despite it being over-exposed "Hallelujah" is still a mighty piece of work. "Chelsea Hotel#2" is another masterpiece. "Bird on a Wire" also. In a different genre I rate Amy Winehouse very highly. "Back to Black" has that essential honesty of all great work. Then there's Tom Waits, too many great songs to even start the list. And yes, I am old enough to nominate Van Morrison "Astral Weeks" and " It's Too Late To Stop Now" or even further back a whole string of early songs by The Animals. Oh shit then there is all the Motown stuff from The Four Tops, early Stevie Wonder, Mavin Gaye, I mean "What's Going On" sounds as good and is just as relevant as the day it was released. " California Uber Alles" "Holiday In Cambodia" DKs "Life On Mars" most of "Young Americans" David Bowie, "In Between Days" "Just like Heaven" The Cure. Coming forward, a stack of Pixies songs, "Sober" by Tool, Lard, Ministry, DOA, Iggy Pop, pretty much everything by The Drones, Frank Black in various combinations. Nick Cave " Tupelo" " The Mercy Seat" the whole William Crighton album. Son House, Lightnin' Hopkins, Howlin' Wolf......should I go on?
Please do.
Some great songs and artists BB.

I had a big day with our Indian mates today. Had a grand final feel about it , for sure . A few dollars riding on a successful rocket launch and satellite deployment with a sub continental take off.
A live video feed that looked like it was a brown skinned out take from revenge of the nerds. All pocket pens and wispy facial hair. Fuckers got the job done alright.
It literally was rocket science. Hats off . Bastards know how to light it up.

Lonely boys playing with the Queens of the Stone Age
Never heard of them the boys say : ABc online
I know I'm going to sound like one of those too cool for school kids, but it sucks sometimes when you get into a band when they are not well known and then they blow up and end up playing big stadium type gigs.
I got into Queens of the Stone age as was a Kyuss fan so bought their spilt Album and then saw them thew first time they came out to Australia.
It was at the Prince of wales in St Kilda, Magic dirt supported them and played an amazing set as played more of their heavier tunes and left out all the more poppy stuff.
Q.O.T.S.A were also good i like their first Album the best and they played mostly those songs and a few from Rated R which had just come out.
Not quite in the same league Indo but I saw Powderfinger play one of their first gigs at the Spring Hill Hotel and thought to myself, these guys are gonna go on to bigger and better things.
Saw Nirvana supporting the Femmes at Fishos years ago, that was a pretty cool day.
I reckon I have seen 90% of these bands live during my youth.......great times and memories

"We must, we must, we must...."
Saint Ian and the acolytes enflaming passions at a DC gig. Fuck, Fugazi at the height of their powers playing a hometown show. What I'd give...
@ID,
Too cool for school cont'd...I bought Superfuzz Bigmuff in '89 a few years before the whole thing broke wide open. My copy wasn't even licensed domestically, it's a Sub Pop import. I then saw Mudhoney in 1990, again before there was an inkling of what was to come.
Used to really like the Sugarcubes and saw them at the Enmore in about '88 or '89. Bjork owning the room and despite all the subsequent successes I still think Birthday is my fave song of hers.
Bug-era Dinosaur jr at the Kardomah Cafe and J Mascis didn't fucken sing the circular refrain at the end of Freak Scenes - "Sometimes I don't thrill you.." etc - which I recall pissing me off, though I also recall them introducing their new single, The Wagon. A year or two later they could fill the Kardomah ten times over.
While it was happening the whole grunge thing was a bit of a downer for me, coming as it did with mainstream crossover, 2JJJ going national, and all the people I tried to create some distance from suddenly listening to the same music. I know it's supposed to be "just about the music" but that's bollocks really, the culture and values surrounding art are equally as important and they got horribly watered down in the vanilla tide. Lotta lessons got learnt in that time.
Alright, time for some discussion on what yr all listening too. My iTunes inventory is getting a little stale so I'm up for some inspiration.
Currently loving The Drones' album "Havilah".. incredible songwriting and some of the best recorded guitars and drum I've heard in a long time. I'm a little late to the party with this album but it's on high rotation at the moment and will probably stay there a while. I've seen these guys live once (Fowlers, Adelaide) and fortunately they're incredible on stage too. Can't wait to see them again.
