Sydney, Hunter and Illawarra Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 10th)

Best Days: Saturday morning, Tuesday morning

Recap

Small to medium levels of S/SE swell persisted across south facing beaches yesterday to 2ft to occasionally 3ft, but conditions remained less than perfect with a moderate E/NE wind which tending more NE during the day. Selected locations in the Illawarra again saw morning offshores before a fresh NE sea breeze kicked in.

Today a reinforcing pulse of S/SE swell has kept 2ft waves hitting the coast this morning with much cleaner conditions under a light variable wind.

This weekend (Jan 11 - 12)

The weekend won't offer too much in the way of surf, with today's S/SE swell expected to ease from 1-2ft tomorrow morning and become tiny into Sunday.

Conditions should be clean early at south facing beaches tomorrow with a light N/NW breeze, while Sunday will see variable winds ahead of a fresh SE change.

Next week (Jan 13 onwards)

A fresh pulse of S'ly swell is due Monday across south facing beaches as a mid-latitude low pushing across Tassie aims a fetch of strong S/SW winds up past its East Coast on Sunday (pictured right).

South facing beaches should build to 2ft during Monday afternoon (above model forecasts) and the ease from a similar size Tuesday morning.

Winds on Monday will be average and then Tuesday morning should be fun with light morning N/NW winds ahead of a fresh NE sea breeze.

The rest of next week will consistent of small levels of NE windswell across north-east facing beaches under N-NE winds.

The longer term outlook is positive with some tropical developments in the Coral Sea likely to send us some good E/NE swell later the following week/weekend but we'll review this again on Monday.
